Entomophobia - Episode 1

The year is 2049.

Earth's population has gotten out of control. Within ten years there will be more people than crops available to sustain them. The world is in crisis. RenGen Corp has set up project Harvest, an outer space experimental facility designed to facilitate a way to grow crops larger and faster.  The mission was a success but during their experiments they also found a way to accelerate the growth of insects.

Killer artwork!  Combat system feels a bit linear if that makes sense.  You've only got one option really.  The cigarettes are the only real strategic choice.  Exploration is good though.  Finding the items you need to unlock the next area is well done.  Overall, good game.  The artwork is the real selling point for me.

I enjoyed this game alot. I liked the graphics, and I'm glad you didn't make the combat too difficult randomly, otherwise, it might have been a downer. I liked how easy it was to progress through, with the items we had to pick up along the way. Story wise - it was effective and I want to know what happened to the Captain! Looking forward to episode 2.

This was well done! Don't usually play gameboy game but was very excited to play on my emulator and it worked great! One thing we ran into is when we opened the map, we couldn't close it. Possibly it was our emulator causing that problem. Either way, we both had fun playing and trying to figure out what was going on. Can't wait to play episode 2!

Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed watching your play through. I haven't come across the glitch you mention but will look into it to see if there's a problem in the code. I have also dropped you a sub as well and look forward to seeing more of your content!

Thank you!

Well this
Well, this got my attention basically right away.

It is not only surprisingly rare to see people do Gameboy stuff, but I have always been a bit curious about how few horror/sci-fi games actually go with the classic Giant Insect trope - and here you are, giving us a big heaping helping of both.

I had a lot of fun with this! The sprites are great, and there are quite a few surprises to be found - to say I did not expect the final boss I got would be an understatement.

While I understand that combat would have to be simplistic out of design due to being on the Gameboy, it does, at the moment, kind of come down to luck - do the enemies dodge too much? Did you get to the Spider without enough health? You're basically done for, with little chance of recovery. The leveling up system and the bat certainly help and make you more badass, but it does feel like it would be surprisingly easy to grind yourself into a corner.

And while I can appreciate the creepiness of a quiet base, at least a bit of ambience for those segments would do wonders - as it is, you end up just kinda wandering around quietly a lot, looking at (mostly) cute overworld sprites, and not even hearing footsteps or some insect noises. It gets to feel a bit like a void sometimes.

Overall though? This was pretty great.

Thanks so much for sharing this play through, I had a blast watching you play the game. Thanks for your constructive feedback about in game music and the battle system. Certainly  things I will take into consideration for Episode 2.

Here's the playthrough I did drgd_retro! Added some voicework to the script.

Thanks for sharing your play through. I loved experiencing it with the music throughout and the different voices reading the speech!

Cant wait for the next part!

I don't mean to be a stickler, I just like the game and wanna help. There's another bug I've seen, where the battle music remains on the overworld after running from an enemy. Very minor, but still wanted to point it out for your sake. You did a good job fixing that last problem ^u^

Thanks for sharing, I’ll have a look into the issue and see what I can uncover

any way to save game on web? my site accidentally reloaded and i lost my progress which was pretty painful :")

finished it and it was pretty fun! liked the dystopian vibes

Thanks for playing, I'm pleased you enjoyed it :)

Reaching the spider boss, the game magically deleted my stats/progress at some point where I was level 4 / had 9 strength and over 10 health, but upon attacking the spider, I did 3 damage then instantly died? It reverted my progress back to 10hp, 3 str, level 1 at some point after burning the plants and reaching the boss, Loading my save after dying shows I was 'somehow' level 1 even though I had defeated all the enemies prior.

Not an enjoyable bug to run into.

Thank you for taking the time to play my game and leave such a comprehensive description of the bug you encountered. I will look into this glitch and post a fix.

I ran into the same thing, it might have something to do with going back through the vent and triggering the "I hear something ahead" prompt a second time.
Actually, it seems to happen when you return to the screen you first gain control inside, even if it's from the other side of the door.

Thanks you so much for this, I can see the problem and hope to have the fixed version uploaded shortly

Has this been fixed yet? I can't tell if the bug update is for tis issue or not.. before I start playing lol

Yes, this fix has been made. I hope you enjoy playing the game!

nice retro

Thanks for sharing your play through :)
